The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones has killed off a number of its supporting characters, including Dany's trusted friends and advisors Jorah and Missandei, leaving the Mother of Dragons with very few people on her side after last week's massacre. But there's one of Dany's allies that the writers seem to have forgotten about: Yara Greyjoy, who sailed off to recapture the Iron Islands in Dany's name in the season premiere. This season has been criticized for doing its female characters dirty, from reducing formidable knight Brienne to a weeping damsel to having Sansa justify her abuse as character building. Yara has arguably been equally underserved, sidelined from the Euron and Theon storylines because show runners Benioff and Weiss presumably didn't know what to do with her. With just one episode left, the show is running out of time to tie up all of its loose ends, and Yara is one of its biggest. Not only is Yara the sole living heir to one of the most powerful remaining … [Read more...] about Where in The Seven Kingdoms Has Yara Greyjoy Gone?

Canonbury Road is used as a 'drug corridor' for gangs transporting drugs between Dalston and Camden. Picture: Polly HancockSince the start of 2017 at least 27 people from Hackney have been convicted over so-called “county lines” dealing: when drug-dealing groups branch out into places off their home turf using a dedicated phone line.In the same period, 11 children from Islington - of which six were looked-after - have been linked to the nefarious trade. But while dozens from the two counties have been rounded up over deals in locations as far as Scotland, South Wales, Cornwall and Bournemouth, questions remain over how these London-based groups are … [Read more...] about County lines: How youngsters are turned into drug dealers
Kelvin Chan Associated Press Published 8:10 PM EST Dec 6, 2018 London – As the shipping industry faces pressure to cut climate-altering greenhouse gases, one answer is blowing in the wind. European and U.S. tech companies, including one backed by airplane maker Airbus, are pitching futuristic sails to help cargo ships harness the free and endless supply of wind power. While they sometimes don’t even look like sails – some are shaped like spinning columns – they represent a cheap and reliable way to reduce CO2 emissions for an industry that depends on a particularly dirty form of fossil fuels. “It’s an old technology,” said Tuomas Riski, the CEO of Finland’s Norsepower, which added its “rotor sail” technology for the first time to a tanker in August. “Our vision is that sails are coming back to the seas.” Denmark’s Maersk Tankers is using its Maersk Pelican oil tanker to test Norsepower’s 98 foot … [Read more...] about Sails go high-tech as shippers cut emissions

Snagging a prime rooftop table on a summer evening will never be an issue for the next owner of a penthouse condo currently on the market. The condo comes with its own private party-size deck with a killer view of the downtown skyline. Or, for a change of scenery, there’s another smaller deck overlooking northeast Minneapolis. All together, it adds up to 800 square feet of private outdoor space seven floors above the street near Riverplace and the Mississippi River. “That’s a huge feature and very unusual,” said Coldwell Banker listing agent Bruce Birkeland, of the condo’s outdoor-living options. The rest of the 4,465-square-foot corner unit is pretty swanky, too, with floor-to-ceiling windows and even glass kitchen cabinets set in a window to maximize light and views. A large center island includes a built-in table and booth seating, creating a pub-like vibe, according to Birkeland. The building, Village Lofts at St. Anthony Falls, was developed in 2002. … [Read more...] about $3.25M penthouse condo with party-size deck overlooks downtown Minneapolis
