A Met Office Yellow weather warning was put in place for much of the UK as forecasters warned of potentially dangerous gales. Wind speeds will clock up to 75mph in North Wales, Northern England, Northern Ireland and Scotland on Tuesday. The warning is in place until 10pm on September 19. Gales and winds of up to 70mph are set to hit UK commuters until 3pm today as Storm Hector makes its way from the Atlantic. Much of Britain is covered by a yellow warning, but the north and west of Northern Ireland is under a more serious amber warning. The Met Office said injuries and a danger to life are now "likely" in coastal areas of many parts of Northern Ireland. They warn of a chance of large waves and potential for beach debris to end up on roads, sea fronts and properties. PUBLISHED: 17:33 29 April 2018 Russell Cook The Orwell Bridge is to close from midnight because of the predicted high winds over the next few hours and into the early hours of tomorrow. Highways England decided to shut the A14 route for safety reasons but were unable to say when it would reopen. They said they will continue to monitor wind speeds closely and will reopen the bridge as soon as it is safe to do so. But based on current forecasts they do not expect the bridge to re-open until tomorrow afternoon which is set to cause misery for motorists using the route. The planned diversion is via the A1156, A1189 and A1214 through Ipswich. Drivers planning to travel tomorrow are encouraged to plan their journey in advance and check the latest weather and traffic conditions. Road users and residents affected by closures can visit the Highways England webpage at http://roads.highways.gov.uk/orwell-bridge/ and subscribe to alerts.
