It is often said that science is self-correcting. Research is generally methodical and involves repetition, where the researcher does the same thing over and over again to make sure they get the same result each time, and replication, where other researchers try to reproduce your experiment to see if it holds up when performed by another set of hands. It is not unusual for a contentious and groundbreaking result to be subject to significant skepticism, scrutiny, and follow-up confirmatory study, as it should be. However, with a global pandemic showing no signs of ending, there is a major drive to get as much information out as quickly as possible, and the normal guardrails inherent to the standard scientific method might understandably be loosened. … [Read more...] about How to Best Approach COVID-19 Research

Instead of feeling hopeless and stuck about this, use it as a way to start growing the relationship. If COVID hadn’t hit, you and your partner would be in the same unfulfilling dance. At least now you can actually look at what is unhealthy and see if things can grow and improve. Primer: A primer is a must when you want your makeup to last long. Even if you're skipping foundation and going for a BB cream, a primer underneath the BB cream provides additional longevity to the makeup. In fact, even if you skip coverage all together, a primer would help make the skin look matte and pore free. BB Cream: Instead of using a heavy foundation that would look like you've caked on a lot of products by the end of the day, go for light weight, sheer coverage, one that can be attained by using a BB cream or tinted moisturiser. This didn’t arise out of nowhere. For years, the left has taken moral stands that strike the right as precious: saving whales, using the right pronoun, denigrating meat-eating and gasoline use, and so on. Let’s grant that each of these causes would make the world a better place in the long run. However, in the short run, these admonitions can come across as scolding, elitist, and out of touch with everyday concerns. People react badly to that. The chiding sounds parental. Emotionally, it invites angry adolescent rebellion. To make matters worse, dismissing such reactions as hopeless or deplorable merely adds dead-dinosaur gasoline to the fire. It’s a bit like a parent telling a teen he’s a loser and won’t amount to anything. … [Read more...] about Antisocial Masking Disorder
Overall, COVID-19 has exposed working-class parents to the stress of having to care for their children with fewer resources and support. Their children may be falling behind as a result of little parental supervision and adequate resources to learn. A long-term consequence of this pandemic may therefore be that it will exacerbate class differentials in children's educational attainment. Schools and the Department of Education should design a curriculum that addresses some of the concerns of working-class parents. Otherwise, schools, which are supposed to be the Great Equalizer, may become the very social mechanisms exacerbating class inequality and contribute to the creation of a pandemic caste system. … [Read more...] about COVID-19 & parenting challenges
