What exercise is best for weight loss
My size has always been a part of my story. I never felt ashamed of my weight or pressured to change myself. I loved my body and loved eating good food—I was even a food blogger in New York City. Yet after 14 years in New York, my life turned upside down. I'd just ended a long-term relationship and needed something new, so I decided to make a big change and moved to Greenville, South Carolina. It was a huge risk but immediately I knew it was the right choice for me. It is a charming town, known for its outdoor recreation and active lifestyle. I realized that while I was happy with my body I wasn't happy with it getting in the way of things I wanted to do. I decided that while I was changing literally everything about my life, maybe it was time to change this too. I deserve to be happy and healthy. Middle school was the first time I can remember actively hating my body. I constantly felt bigger than other girls, and that was when I learned my body was "bad." The girls who were quiet, small, and thin were praised as being beautiful, and I was none of those things. As a result, I started my first diet.By high school, I not only hated my body, but I was also deeply ashamed of it. During my first week of school, I was raped by two men. After the assault, I had a very hard time coping, and one way I managed my feelings was with food. I was caught in a cycle of bingeing, purging, and blaming my "broken" body for … [Read more...] about Why I Regret My Weight-Loss Surgery

As a health writer, I've had the opportunity to interview dozens of women about their weight-loss journeys.Over the years, I've heard from women who were up against so many different weight-loss challenges—from being a new mom to traveling all the time for work. The reasons these women finally decided to get serious about their health run the gamut. For one young woman, it was to take control of her prediabetes. Then, there was a singer who got her revenge body back, with a little help from Khloe Kardashian. But despite the diversity of their stories, there is one common theme that I see popping up in profile after profile: hitting a plateau. So many stories start out with fast results. Week after week, these women see progress. Then one day, a few months or so into their weight-loss journeys, the scale starts to stall—even though they're still sticking to the same eating and workout habits consistently.
