Home Health Health on January 22, 2022 Scientists in the US have identified tiny natural bubbles containing the ACE2 protein (evACE2) in the blood of COVID-19 patients that can block infection from broad strains of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The evACE2 are lipid vesicles in nanoparticle size that express the ACE2 protein on cells. These bubbles act as decoys to lure the SARS-CoV-2 virus away from the ACE2 protein, which acts as a gateway for the virus to infect cells. The evACE2 can serve as a therapeutic to be developed for prevention and treatment for current and future strains of SARS-CoV-2 and subsequent coronaviruses, the researchers said. Once developed as a therapeutic product, evACE2 have the potential to benefit people as a biological treatment with minimal toxicities, they said. The study, published in the journal Nature Communications on Thursday, is the first to show evACE2 are capable of fighting the new SARS-CoV-2 … [Read more...] about Nano Bubbles In Blood Of Covid Patients Could Treat, Prevent Infection With Coronavirus Variants

Home Health Health on January 25, 2022 A team of researchers, including an Indian-origin scientist at the prestigious University of British Columbia, has become the first in the world to conduct a molecular-level structural analysis of the Omicron spike protein, which could help accelerate the development of more effective treatments against the variant. Spike protein helps the virus enter and infect cells. Dr Sriram Subramaniam, professor in the UBC faculty of medicine's department of biochemistry and molecular biology, said that Omicron has greater binding affinity than the original SARS-CoV-2 virus, with levels more comparable to what seen with the Delta variant. The findings, published in the Science journal, sheds new light on why Omicron is highly transmissible and will help accelerate the development of more effective treatments, according to a statement issued by the Vancouver-based university. The analysis, done … [Read more...] about Indian-Origin Scientist Among UBC Researchers Unveil World’s 1st Molecular-Level Analysis Of Omicron
Home Health Health on January 20, 2022 It is not possible to end the COVID-19 virus as such viruses never go away and end up becoming part of the ecosystem, a top WHO official said on Tuesday but asserted that it is possible to end this year the public health emergency caused by COVID-19 with a collaborative approach to fix inherent inequities in the system. Speaking at the World Economic Forum's online Davos Agenda 2022 summit, the World Health Organization's Health Emergencies Programme Executive Director Michael Ryan said what needs to be done is to ensure a really low level of disease incidence with the maximum vaccination of the entire world population. "That will be the end of the public health emergency in my view and that would be an end to this pandemic," he said while adding that there was a chance to achieve it this year itself. The worldwide spread of the deadly virus, which was first reported in China's Wuhan in … [Read more...] about Not Possible To End This Virus; Pandemic Viruses End Up Becoming Part Of Ecosystem: WHO Official

Home Art culture Art Culture on January 28, 2022 "Spotify has become the home of life threatening COVID misinformation. Lies being sold for money," wrote singer Neil Young. In a harshly worded statement on his website, Young has now had his songs removed from the streaming platform Spotify: this, despite the fact that the Canadian-American singer stands to lose 60% of his worldwide streaming income. Young, who advocates COVID-19 safety and prevention, had earlier this week protested the podcast of controversial US podcaster Joe Rogan for spreading misinformation about COVID. In a since-deleted letter to his manager and record label that was published on his website, Young had stated, "You can have Rogan or Young. Not both." His original statement drew attention to an issue about which little is known: disinformation on podcast streaming platforms such as Spotify. Young accused the streaming service of spreading "false … [Read more...] about Spotify Removes Neil Young’s Music After He Calls Out Music Streaming App For Alleged COVID Misinformation
