TYPHOON Mangkhut is now barrelling across China bringing torrential rains and 120mph winds on the back of the total devastation it wreaked in the Philippines. The killer storm - which has now been downgraded from its initial super typhoon status - is the strongest recorded anywhere on the planet during 2018, with maximum wind speeds at one stage topping 177 mph. It struck China after rocking the former British colony of Hong Kong earlier on Sunday, injuring more than 100 people and leaving giant skyscrapers swaying in the fierce winds. The typhoon caused massive storm surges as the Hong Kong Observatory issued a signal T10 - the highest possible storm warning alert - before later downgrading it to a T8. A HUGE landslide has left at least 40 gold miners trapped as Typoon Mangkhut batters the Philippines. The deadly typhoon has barrelled into Hong Kong and the Philippines and is due to make landfall in China bringing devastation in its wake. At least 30 people have died in the Philippines, while more than 100 people have been injured in Hong Kong as heavy rains and monster winds batter the Far East. Most of the deaths have been caused by landslides in the Cordillera and Nueva Vizcaya regions, officials say. Among those who fell victim to the storm are a baby and toddler, with and downed communication lines meaning reports of further deaths could still come in.
