Brief Dive Brief: Nonprofit Catholic health system Trinity Health on Tuesday reported a 7.1% increase in revenue to $311 million in the first quarter of its fiscal year 2019, which ended Sept. 30. Trinity had a $20.4 million increase in operating income and finished the quarter at $100.4 million. The operating margin of 2.1% improved on last year's 1.8%. Operating cash flow stayed at almost 8%. The Livonia, Michigan-based health system's expenses increased by 6.7% or $291 million to $4.6 billion. Nearly one-third of those added expenses came from the purchase of MacNeal Hospital and its entities from Tenet Healthcare. The health system also announced Tuesday CEO Richard Gilfillan will step down in June, to be replaced by current Chief Operating Office Michael Slubowski. Armagh senior Paddy McKeever, Tyrone minor Gavin Wylie (1-2), Fiachra Woods and Oliver Gaughan (1-1) hit the Poly goals while Stephen Donnelly top scored with 0-8. Brief Dive Brief: Livonia, Michigan-based Trinity Health reported operating income of $136 million during fiscal year 2018, a marked increased from an $18 million loss last year. The gain comes despite steep impairment charges incurred during the year, including $108 million related to the conversion to a single EHR for the system that operates 94 hospitals in 22 states. Revenue increased 4% to $18.3 billion, according to the system's audited financial results. Hospital discharges for the year were flat and outpatient visits increased by about 1 million visits to 20 million for the year. Dive Insight: Somewhat bucking industry trends, Trinity reported slight revenue increases in both outpatient and inpatient services. Expenses increased 3.4% for the system for the year. A part of that increase was related to the March 1 acquisition of Berwyn, Illinois-based MacNeal Hospital and MacNeal Health Providers from Tenet Healthcare.
