Singer-songwriter Sam Smith has come out as non-binary, and says he thinks like a woman sometimes. The English musician opened up to activist Jameela Jamil on her new Instagram TV series, "I Weigh." In a conversation about body image and self-worth, Smith told Jamil he wants to help other people. "But I think you can only do that by helping yourself first," he said. Smith discussed his own struggles with weight and then opened up about gender."I've never spoken about this, and it's something that I'm not even sure of myself," Smith said. "But I was recently reading stories about people who came out as gender queer and non-binary, and I always had a bit of a war within my body and my mind about...""How you define yourself?" Jamil asked."Yes, because I do think like a woman sometimes in my head. And I've sometimes sat there and questioned, 'Do I want a sex change?' And it's something I still think about...but I don't think it is," Smith said.Smith said that when he … [Read more...] about Sam Smith comes out as non-binary: “Maybe I’m not a man, maybe I’m not a woman, maybe I’m just me”
Think like a man
Brooklyn, New York (CNN)It was a Friday afternoon like any other. I ate lunch, dropped off my dry cleaning, then stopped by my local Target to pick up some prescriptions. But on the way to the counter I noticed a man in a black coat, wearing a backpack bearing a sign: "In need of a kidney for my wife, B+. 917-442-6202." Unsure what to say, I quickly snapped a photo. And then he was gone. Although I generally hate posting pictures of people online without getting their approval, I decided to share the image on Twitter since his face wasn't in it -- and because the message was so important. Here is a photo I took at my Target yesterday and can't stop thinking about. pic.twitter.com/gbzF47AqCy— Lilit Marcus (@lilitmarcus) December 22, 2018 Within a few hours, my picture of this man -- whom I've since identified as Raymond Thompson -- had gone viral. Celebrities such as Zach Braff, Martina Navratilova and Evan Rachel Wood shared it. Actress Sarah Hyland, who recently revealed she … [Read more...] about A man wore a sign to find his wife a kidney donor
President George H.W. Bush was praised as a man of vision by retired General Colin Powell, who served as Mr. Bush's Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during the first Gulf War. As president, Mr. Bush was cautious but not timid. And despite his oft-quoted remark dismissing "the vision thing," he did have a vision regarding foreign policy, Gen. Powell said. "This was a man with vision; he just didn't broadcast it. But he knew what he was doing. He was with Reagan for those years when the Soviet Union was started to come apart and Gorbachev came on the scene. And so he was ready to take over from Reagan and he knew what he was dealing with in Gorbachev. "But he was cautious. And in the first few months of his administration, he was a little reluctant to move out too quickly to work with the Russians. But then when he realized what they had and what they were needing, he jumped right in and he immediately went [to the Malta Summit]. You may recall the summit meeting he had on that ship … [Read more...] about Colin Powell: George H.W. Bush was “a man with vision”

Supported by ByChristina Caron Nov. 29, 2018 For months, Hector Hernandez, 47, didn’t understand why his stomach had gotten so big. “I just thought I was fat,” he said. “I’ve always been a big guy.” It would be a year and a half before he discovered that his large belly was actually a 77-pound tumor. In the meantime, he watched as it grew and grew. When he took the Los Angeles Metro to work every morning, people would stare. “I wore big jackets to try to cover up, but it was very noticeable,” he said in an interview on Wednesday. HUFFPOST PERSONAL 11/08/2018 08:30 am ET Nick CicconeGuest Writer “You’re too sensitive for this world,” I thought to myself as I walked into the psych ward of a local hospital with my mother. I wasn’t moments away from killing myself, but I was feeling suicidal. It’s the low hum of depression somewhere in between the extremes that I find most terrifying, and it’s a raw place for a man to be. Many people don’t have patience for a man in distress. We’re expected to pull ourselves up, lick our wounds and soldier on. Things looked good on paper. I’d recently taken a new job, moved to Manhattan and weaned myself off antidepressants with the consent of my doctor. I have a large family who loves and supports me. I have a few friends — not many — who are incredibly close to me. I have a meaningful relationship with nature, the outdoors, animals. I belong to none of the numerous marginalized groups whose … [Read more...] about What It’s Like To Be A ‘Highly Sensitive Person’ When You’re A Man
