MILLIONS of Londoners have not seen the sun for a whole week. Experts say it is the longest period of miserable weather in the capital for eight years. Some parts of the country have had less than half the normal amount of sun for April. But there is a ray of sunshine coming as parts are set to be hotter than the Med next week. The dank conditions during recent months is feared to have increased cases of Seasonal Affective Disorder. The condition can affect energy levels, make folk irritable, leave them feeling lethargic and craving carbohydrates. Amateur weather expert Ben Lee-Rodgers said this week was the first since January 2010 when London did not see a single hour of sun for seven consecutive days. With lots of sunshine in the days following Easter and more forecast for new week, one of Germany’s most beloved spring celebrations, Spargelsaison (asparagus season), has just launched. On Thursday afternoon, the season officially kicked off through a celebration in Brandenburg’s Beelitz, which has been growing the venerated vegetable since 1861. The Spargelino - the vegetable’s jolly mascot - was on hand, surrounded by women costumed in traditional countryside garb. BRITAIN is due to face three days of patchy downpours mixed in with some sunshine but conditions are set to improve by Friday. Most of central, southern and eastern areas of England will face further rain at times, along with low cloud and some fog in the hillier areas. The far north of Scotland is also expected to be hit by rain in the most northern areas. The rest of the UK is expected to be mainly dry and clear but with some areas experiencing patches of fog. The rain will move north-westerly though and continue on Sunday and for the early parts of Monday although any rain will become heavier. As the rain moves north some sunshine will break out with the odd chance of showers. The rain will continue to move north on Tuesday with coastal regions in the east getting some fog. Things will improve on Wednesday which is expected to be dry and bright in most areas.
