The light-hearted series, called Good Morning Dagenham, follows the market crew each week as they put on a different event to increase visitor numbers and drive sales.Frank Nash, the market’s owner, said viewers can expect a bit of fun and lots of characters. He highlighted Tony the butcher who comes from “a family of comedians” and Scottish stall owner Bill Watson for special mention. He said: “You wouldn’t think a guy who sold gravestones was so funny.”The series began as a 10-minute documentary short made by James Quinn, who was then head of special projects at Oxford Film and Television. Picture: Isabel Infantes Archant A five part documentary series about the challenges and characters at Dagenham Sunday Market is set to air next month. The BBC series, called Good Morning Dagenham, is set within Britain’s biggest open air market and focuses on how bosses are attempting to fight the threat of internet shopping with new stalls and weekly attractions.The show, narrated by Larry Lamb, will also feature market traders and the range of products and services on offer every week. A TERRIBLE dependency culture has developed on ITV daytime. Six days a week now, This Morning hammers home the message its viewers are the most helpless, mollycoddled invertebrates on the planet. A form of life so useless that last November Dr Chris Steele, the show’s resident quack, genuinely felt the need to give us all bottom-wiping advice. “It’s a front-to-back action for women,” more of a hit-and-hope exercise for men. In return for this constant nannying, we pick up a phone once a year and gurgle: “You’re absolutely right. We are useless. Have a trophy.” And it’s a depressing cycle that will continue for as long as there are National Television Awards, live from The O2. A ceremony where the categories may chop and change every year, but the stupidity remains ritualised.
