In this regard, Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar tweeted on Wednesday stating that most people with COVID-19 symptoms are infected by the BA.2 sub-variant of the Omicron variant of novel coronavirus. "Which strain is dominating in Karnataka? As per the genome sequencing sample: March 2021 - December 2021: 90.7% Delta January 2022 - April 2022: 87.80% Omicron May 2022 - June 2022: 99.20% Omicron," Sudhakar tweeted. Home Health Wellness Wellness on June 24, 2022 Majority of patients infected by Omicron's sub-variant - BA.2 and its offspring BA.2.38 - did not require hospitalisation, and illnesses caused by them were mild and self-limiting, a clinical study has revealed. The study, led by Dr Rajesh Karyekarte of B J Medical College, was conducted on 116 patients who were infected with BA.2.38, an offspring of Omicron's sub-variant BA.2. Talking to PTI on Wednesday, Dr Karyekarte said they had done the genome sequencing of some samples from April to June and had sent the report to the government. "During the analysis, we found that BA.2 is common, but its offspring BA.2.38 is also prevalent and is neck to neck with BA.2," Dr Karyekarte said. Health Minister Veena George said the presence of anthrax has been confirmed in wild boars in the Athirappilly forest area. "Wild boars have died en masse in the Athirappilly forest area. Subsequently, the Health Department, the Animal Husbandry Department and the Forest Department conducted an investigation. Samples of these were tested to confirm the case of anthrax infection," George said in a statement. She said the health department is taking immediate steps to prevent the spread of anthrax, a bacteria naturally found in soil and commonly affecting domestic and wild animals when they contact it. The largest genome analysis of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi (S. Typhi) also shows that resistant strains - almost all originating in South Asia - have spread to other countries nearly 200 times since 1990. The researchers noted that Typhoid fever is a global public health concern, causing 11 million infections and more than 100,000 deaths per year.
