The Sixers missed out on their big free agency prizes Sunday and quickly turned their attention to what remains — inking sharp-shooting J.J. Redick to a one-year, $12 million contract for next season. The core is set, with the starting line up of Ben Simmons, Redick, Robert Covington, Dario Saric and Joel Embiid slated to return next season, but the rest of the makeup of the 2018-19 Sixers is still murky.Youngsters Markelle Fultz, Zhaire Smith, Landry Shamet, Richaun Holmes and a few others remain on the team as well and could work their way into big minutes in the rotation (if they aren't used as trade chips). Other pieces that became household names like Ersan Ilysova and Marco Belinelli have left for new opportunities leaving the bench thin. The star hunting promised by head coach and acting GM Brett Brown will need to come in the form of a trade. As for the remaining cap space of roughly $20 million after the Redick deal, there aren't too many head-turning names left … [Read more...] about NBA Rumors: Free agent targets for Sixers include Tyreke Evans, Jabari Parker

Lake County Councilman Eldon Strong signals that Tuesday night’s closest primary race — decided by just 2 votes — may not be over
CROWN POINT — Lake County Councilman Eldon Strong is mulling a recount after his two-vote loss in Tuesday's Republican primary.County election officials said the incumbent councilman will have to weigh the possibility of a miscount in an era when electronic voting reduces counting errors, against the cost, which could amount to thousands of dollars and the possibility a recount won't change the outcome. The unofficial final canvas for the spring primary shows Christian Jorgensen, of St. John, received 2,219 votes and Strong 2,217, to represent the 7th District, which includes Cedar Lake, Crown Point, Lowell, Schneider, Winfield and rural south county.Strong said Wednesday he wanted to thank those who voted for him, but is putting off a decision on a recount until after the May 18 election board meeting when election officials rule on the validity of any provisional and other questionable votes that could change the final totals. He would then have a four-day window to meet a May 22 … [Read more...] about Lake County Councilman Eldon Strong signals that Tuesday night’s closest primary race — decided by just 2 votes — may not be over
