It takes six months to fall in love with a partner, but just 30 minutes to fall in love with your pet, according to new research. Researcher of the nation’s dog owners has discovered us Brits really are a nation of animal lovers, with more than half (56 percent) believing they felt true love for their pet within half an hour. However, when it comes to our human relationships, the majority of those quizzed said it had taken up to six months to decide that their partner was “the one”. Four in ten (40 percent) of those surveyed by Agria Pet Insurance said they would describe the moment they met their pet as love at first sight, while only 16 percent could say the same about their other half. Supported by SOCIAL Q’S A reader wonders whether to tell Mom about Dad’s dark feelings. ByPhilip Galanes Jan. 31, 2019 Mom and Dad have been married for 45 years. Their relationship seems O.K. But at my father’s 70th birthday party, I asked him if he had a wish. He said, “I wish I was one of your mother’s old boyfriends. She’s always positive about them, but criticizes and complains about me. She might have been happier with one of them, and I might have been happier too.” My siblings and I were stunned! My father pivoted quickly, and my mother wasn’t in the room to hear him. Now, my siblings and I disagree: Should we tell Mom and follow up with Dad about his feelings, or let this … [Read more...] about ‘I Wish I Was One of Your Mother’s Old Boyfriends.’ Oh Boy.
HUFFPOST PERSONAL 01/04/2019 08:30 am ET Jamie CattanachGuest Writer In the fitting room of a Limited Too in Miami, I told my mother, You’re hurting me. She was sausaging my body into an American flag T-shirt in the largest size they sold. She was trying to help. In the third grade, I’d pore over their catalog for hours, longing not only for the bohemian-chic bandana halter tops but for the body that would allow me to wear them. I’d said as much to my boyfriend at the time, who would frequently remark on the attractiveness of other, thinner women. He assured me that it was all just thermodynamics, that I could lose the weight if I “really wanted … [Read more...] about This Is What No One Tells You About Massive Weight Loss

By Nick Wing and Erin Schumaker 12/26/2018 09:31 am ET Christmas Eve, for Dr. Mary Brandt, will forever be associated with saving the life of a little girl who nearly died from a gunshot more than 25 years ago. Teams were in the middle of changing shifts when a 6-year-old came to a Texas county hospital ER with massive gunshot wounds to her shoulder and chest. Her mother had been fatally shot by her boyfriend. When the girl tried to call 911, the man turned his shotgun on her. After hours of surgery, Brandt saved the child. Since then, Brandt, now a pediatric surgeon at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, has operated on many more child shooting victims. “All of us have some patients who we can’t forget,” Brandt said of the young girl. “In terms of being able to not be sad about it, it took months and months. I’m … [Read more...] about You Can’t Understand The Brutal Reality Of Gun Violence Until You Hear It From Doctors
