A few years ago, psychologist Susan Silk and her friend Barry Goldman wrote about a concept they called the “ Ring Theory .” It’s a theory to help yourself know what to do in a crisis. If the crisis is happening to you, you’re in the center of the ring. If the crisis is not happening to you, you’re in one of the outer circles. Here are the basic tenets, paraphrased from Silk and Goodman: Draw a circle. In this circle, write the name of the person at the center of the crisis. Now draw a larger circle around the first one. In this ring, put the name of the person next closest to the crisis. In each larger ring, put the next closest people. As Silk and Goodman state, “Parents and children before more distant relatives. Intimate friends in smaller rings, less intimate friends in larger ones. . . When you are done, you have a Kvetching Order." When battling addiction you have to be willing to get into the ring Source: Attentie-Attentie/Unsplash Over the years, one of my favorite movie series has always been Rocky . As you know, this is an individual who is a local fighter in his hometown and was given a shot at the heavyweight title. In Rocky II , I remember a scene in which Rocky was half-heartedly training for his rematch for the title. His trainer Mickey told Rocky, “For a 45-minute fight, you have to train for 45,000 minutes.” As an individual who has been in recovery for nearly 30 years, I can tell you that you will be training and preparing yourself for the fight of your life. One of the things I have often told others who are learning to live a new way of life is that their addiction is constantly training and preparing for when they get released from prison. This could be in the form of someone who is in active addiction, and who is like a lion ready to pounce on their prey. You see, those who are … [Read more...] about 5 Strategies in Learning How to Fight for Your Recovery
Home Fashion Trends Fashion Trends Devika Tripathi By Devika Tripathi | on March 1, 2021 Be it her meticulous fashion, theories around her tragic accident, or her relationship with Prince Charles, there's always this elusiveness about late Lady Diana, even though she is one of the most documented public figures. A number of documentaries and movies have been made on her. Actors including Naomi Watts, Amy Seccombe, Julie Cox, and Serena Scott Thomas have played Lady Diana on-screen. While we are yet to see Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana, meanwhile Emma Corrin in the season 4 of the Netflix series, The Crown , was breathtaking as Lady Diana. Not only did she look exactly like Lady Diana but with her demeanour and those coy smiles, we actually felt as if we were watching Princess Diana and not an actor playing the role. And for her acting chops in The Crown , Emma Corrin won the Best Actress in a Drama Series at the Golden … [Read more...] about Golden Globes 2021: Did Emma Corrin Find A Connect Between Pierrot Clown And Lady Diana With Her Gown?
Why is it so hard for most of us to be honest about how we feel or what we are going through? Most of us have been carefully taught to follow a precise socially-accepted script on a daily basis. You know the one I'm talking about: "Hi. How are you?" "I'm fine. How are you?" I don't know about you, but I'm never fine. I am always stressing about something, worrying about something, or am in physical or emotional pain about something. Don't get me wrong, I practice mindfulness . I practice staying in the present moment, I practice breathing exercises, and various forms of gratitude . But I am never truly fine, whatever that means. As a trauma survivor, I am often reminded of the horrific wounds of my past and as a trauma survivor, I'd also been conditioned that I was not allowed to say that I was not OK. I was taught that I need to feel grateful for what I had and if I was not able to feel gratitude, then I'd better feel ashamed of my ingratitude. When I was a … [Read more...] about Why Truth Is Harder Than Fiction
