OKLAHOMA CITY - Police have identified the man who allegedly opened fire in a restaurant Thursday and was later killed by bystanders as 28-year-old Alexander C. Tilghman. According to Oklahoma City Police Captain Bo Mathews, Tilghman, wearing eye and ear protection, stood in the doorway of a Louie's on the Lake around 6:30 p.m. and began shooting into the restaurant with a handgun. A 39-year-old woman and two juvenile girls were shot and wounded, and an unnamed man fell and broke his arm while fleeing, according to a statement from police. Mathews told reporters that during the shooting, two men saw what was happening and separately went to their vehicles, retrieved their handguns, and shot Tilghman. Police identified the two men as Juan Carlos Nazario and Bryan Wittle. "They stopped an incident that was very tragic," said Mathews. "We have no idea what he was going to do when he left the restaurant." Police did not release a motive in the shooting. Captain Mathews said … [Read more...] about Police ID Okla. restaurant gunman killed by armed bystanders
A man armed with a pistol walked into an Oklahoma City restaurant at the dinner hour Thursday and opened fire, wounding two customers, before being shot dead by a handgun-carrying civilian in the parking lot, police said. The shooting happened about 6:30 p.m. at Louie's On The Lake, a restaurant on Lake Hefner in the Oklahoma capital. A woman and a female juvenile were undergoing surgery for gunshot wounds but apparently "are going to survive," said Capt. Bo Matthews, a police spokesman. A man suffered a broken arm while trying to escape the shooting. A family member told KOCO-TV that her daughter and 12-year-old granddaughter were shot while entering the restaurant for the girl's birthday dinner. Authorities have not identified the injured patrons. The suspect's identity also was not immediately known, Matthews said. The shooting appeared to be a random act. "We have no reason to believe this is a terrorist type of incident," Matthews said. The motive was unclear otherwise, and the … [Read more...] about Man Opens Fire Inside Okla. TULSA, Okla. -- An Oklahoma teenager convicted in the fatal stabbings of five family members is set for sentencing Thursday, when jurors will consider whether he should spend the rest of his life behind bars. Michael Bever was 16 when he and his then-18-year-old brother, Robert Bever, killed their parents and three younger siblings in the Tulsa suburb of Broken Arrow, prosecutors said. The older brother pleaded guilty in 2016 and a jury convicted Michael Bever late Wednesday of five counts of first-degree murder and one count of assault and battery with intent to kill. "They punched a knife into their sister's neck," District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler said. "They then went and attacked their mom, gave her 40-some-odd wounds to her body. They then hunted down their dad and stabbed him in a bedroom. And then they had the audacity to go and knock on a door to try to lure out those children so they can stab them, so that they can go on some kind of cross-country crime spree. … [Read more...] about Michael Bever, Okla. teen, guilty of fatally stabbing parents, 3 younger siblings
As Oklahoma's attorney general, Scott Pruitt assigned investigations agents from his office to be his driver and bodyguard, at times taking them on his frequent trips out of state to speak to conservative political organizations, state records show. The newly obtained documents raise similar questions to those that have triggered investigations into Pruitt's security and travel since becoming administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Pruitt was Oklahoma's top prosecutor from 2011 to 2016, at a time in which he was raising his profile nationally as a conservative in favor of rolling back regulation and federal authority. Pruitt traveled extensively as attorney general, taking at least 24 out-of-state trips in 2015 and 2016, including 11 to Washington, D.C., according to the records. Although some travel expenses were reimbursed by conservative think tanks where Pruitt spoke, records show no sign of reimbursement for several trips involving appearances before them.
