More Than 9,300 Tri-State Pets Find New Homes During NBC 4 New York and Telemundo 47’s Fourth Annual Clear the Shelters Pet Adoption Drive
More than 9,300 local pets were adopted during NBC 4 New York and Telemundo 47’s fourth annual Clear the Shelters™ pet adoption drive. Launched in July and culminating on “Clear the Shelters Day” Saturday, Aug. 18, the stations’ pet adoption effort included the participation of 118 local animal shelters and rescues. Since 2015, over 16,000 pets from the Tri-State area have found new homes as part of the stations’ Clear the Shelters™ initiative. Nationally, more than 88,000 pets found new homes this month and over 240,000 pets have been adopted through NBC and Telemundo Owned Stations’ Clear the Shelters nationwide pet adoption campaign. “This was a record-breaking tri-state Clear the Shelters™ campaign. Letters From New York State, New York City Demand Answers From Feds on Migrant Children
New York state has demanded all federally-contracted foster agencies to send detailed information on each of the immigrant children in their care after Gov. Cuomo expressed frustration over his inability to wrangle that information from the federal government, News 4 New York has learned. Cuomo had given the agencies a deadline of 10 a.m. Friday. New York's Office of Children and Family Services was among several state departments that sent a letter to foster agencies asking for extensive information on the migrant children in their care and on their contracts with the federal government. Vice President Mike Pence Arrives to Protests in Upstate New York
Vice President Mike Pence said Tuesday he doesn't want to see children taken from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border but repeated the administration's position that "loopholes" in immigration laws are to blame. "The truth is our weak immigration laws have had dire consequences," Pence said at an upstate New York steel plant he toured while in the area for a Republican fundraiser. "President Trump and I will continue to work tirelessly to close these crippling loopholes, to build a wall to secure our border and to solve the crisis of illegal immigration once and for all," the vice president said at the Nucor Steel plant in Auburn before shifting his focus to praise for Republican President Donald Trump's tax and trade policies.
