0 View Gallery View Comments NASHVILLE, Tenn. — This Southern hockey town (yes, seriously), this catfish tank of a building, this deep and dangerous Predators hockey club? As advertised. No ifs, ands or ain’ts about it. And after Nashville turned into Smashville and piled on with a 5-2 win Thursday night, it’s going to take a little more magic from the Avalanche to make this thing a series. Hey, I know a guy. Goes by Nate. Can MacKinnon flip the switch that made the 22-year-old the smart choice for the Hart Trophy? The Avs were as ready as the youngest team in hockey could be for the noise and nonsense that comes with a Smashville home game. It's no joke, either. From pop band Rascal Flatts singing the national anthem to concerts between periods, the Preds stay on brand and play to their base. Related: "It's a party city," Hart Trophy candidate Nathan MacKinnon says, and Avs are in Nashville to crash it But for a while there — right after … [Read more...] about Paul Klee: After 5-2 loss to Nashville Predators, Colorado Avalanche’s Game 1 hopes swim with the catfishes
0 View Comments NASHVILLE — "It's a party city," Nathan MacKinnon said Thursday inside the underdogs' locker room in downtown "Smashville." Who doesn't dig a good party? The Avs have RSVP'ed to crash it. "Our expectation is to come in here and win," coach Jared Bednar said after the team's morning skate inside party central, Bridgestone Arena. This hockey town is no joke. Judging by the appropriately dressed foot traffic at the corner of Sixth and Demonbreun, the unofficial uniform in Smashville is a cowboy hat and P.K. Subban sweater. The festivities begin at the Walk of Fame "Preds Party in the Park" game watch and continue to the real, live catfish tank on the upper concourse at Bridgestone. Yep, catfish tank. The locals have been known to tape a catfish onto their backs or smuggle them into the arena by other smelly reasons possible. And onto the ice it goes. Ahead of Game 1 late Thursday night, the Avs … [Read more...] about Klee blog: “It’s a party city,” Hart Trophy candidate Nathan MacKinnon says, and Avs are in Nashville to crash it
0 View Gallery View Comments NASHVILLE — Goalie pads tastefully organized away from the bustling foot traffic in the Avalanche training room, Jonathan Bernier reflected on the nasty hand infection that placed him in a hospital bed. It was less than three weeks ago. “Really scary, to be honest,” Bernier said. And here’s a guy who's had two concussions in the new year, so it must have been terrifying, indeed. Yes, Bernier’s journey to this point in a riveting Avalanche season — Game 1 vs. the Predators here at Bridgestone Arena on Thursday — has been anything but orthodox. Why would the Stanley Cup playoffs be any different? Hey, it's not me labeling the Avalanche as the longest longshot in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. It's the wise guys in Las Vegas, where the Avs are 16th out of 16 qualifiers to win the whole enchilada. “We know they’re the best team in the … [Read more...] about Paul Klee: The sweetest sound for Colorado Avalanche in playoff series vs. Nashville Predators?
