You may not see a better movie with a worse title this year than “Her Smell.”Scratch that, actually; the title’s perfect. It’s the name of the rock club where we meet the pop supernova that is Becky Something (a mesmerizing Elisabeth Moss), who fronts an all-female punk band called Something She. But it also captures something of the acrid effect she has on anyone who crosses her path. Becky is more than just another over-indulged, over-liquored celebrity narcissist; she’s a bad mood, a toxic atmosphere, a cloud of rage, self-pity and unbridled malice that comes rolling off the screen in thick, annihilating waves. In a word, she reeks. That’s not an orthodox recommendation, to be sure, and this movie — a blistering, exhilarating eruption of raw talent and nerve from writer-director Alex Ross Perry — may well send you screaming from the theater, ready to embark on a violent bender of your own. Monster inspiration review
A DIY builder living in a treehouse hailed as “truly inspiring” by Man Made Home presenter Kevin McCloud has been told to tear it down because he did not have planning permission, a court heard. Eddie McIntosh, 52, was ordered by council planners to rip down his hand-built wooden treehouse, cabins, footbridge and classroom on his rural farm near Llandrindod Wells, Mid Wales. The father started developing his “holistic retreat” to live a more sustainable lifestyle in the buildings made out of recycled materials featured on Channel 4’s Man Made Home. It is alleged he didn’t have planning permission and faces 18 charges in the case by Powys County Council. The charges are related to alleged failures to comply with notices from 2015 to demolish and … [Read more...] about Builder whose treehouse home was hailed by Man Made Home’s Kevin McCloud as an ‘inspiration’ ordered to rip it down
So, if you read the previous article, you'll know that we're here because Tet Zoo was four years old on January 21st. In that article, I got as far as discussing blog-relevant events that happened up to the end of May or so. Time to crack on... Felt a bit weird promoting both WWD and The Sun, but it was a nice opportunity to talk to lots of people about dinosaurs, palaeontology and science. Most of the DJs were actually well informed on dinosaurs and also interested in stuff like the evidence for evolution... though I was a bit surprised by the lady who'd never heard of Diplodocus. While at News Group Newspapers HQ I took loads of photos of stuff like Rupert … [Read more...] about 2009, a year of Tet Zooery
