Source: Donaldson-Pressman Katie’s mother will only give her the WiFi code after she cleans her room. She was supposed to clean it last night, and now she’s being punished. I don’t actually know Katie or her mother, but I’ve seen the post-it note left by her mother on facebook, and read the reactions of other parents who have applauded her clever punishment. Jenna’s children forgot to clean the lint filter after doing their laundry. Rather than having a conversation with them, a clever note was left on the filter, a picture snapped, and it was circulated on twitter. So parents, I’m asking you, when did it become acceptable to parent through post-it notes? I spent nearly a year traveling throughout the United States to big cities such as New York, and tiny little towns like Wimberley, Texas. I interviewed both teachers and parents in a quest to discover the most effective learning strategies used by … [Read more...] about Parenting Through Post-It Notes
Source: SergiyN/Shutterstock Confidence, intelligence, creativity, and happy productivity depend on ample time for unstructured play and imagination. This is true throughout childhood, but especially critical in the early years, until about the age of seven. The National Education Association and the National Parent-Teacher Association both recommend that children be asked to do no more than 10 minutes a day of homework in Grade One, then move up incrementally from there, with second graders doing a maximum of twenty minutes a day, third graders thirty minutes, and so on. Too many children are showing signs of stress, and too many parents are finding precious family time eaten away by homework demands. Recently, I heard from a mother of a four-year-old. She said that one week … [Read more...] about How Much Homework Is Too Much? How Can Parents Push Back?
When a couple has unsatisfying sex, who's to blame? From a woman, on the 'front lines,' porn is most definitely damaging to men of all ages. I'm 30 years old, and every time I sleep with a man it seems they are trying harder and more painful acts with me, and this is all as a result of porn. Guys are definitely more sexist than they were since I was 20, and I have no doubt that this is due to being inundated with these hardcore, degrading images. They also make the men enjoy sex less, less likely to please, and more displeased with me (and I am attractive by any standard). Sincerely, L. On behalf of men everywhere, I think that guys who behave this way in bed with a woman are idiots. A man who acts like this has never been taught to be a gentleman, and is an insensitive lout who need serious help understanding relationships, sexuality, communication and how to have a reciprocal experience in bed. However, I’m skeptical of the degree to which porn is a scapegoat. It's a … [Read more...] about Blaming Porn for Bad Sex

However, among these best dressed we also spotted some of the worst dressed singers. A handful of the worst dressed at the Grammy Awards 2014 were indeed disastrous.
