JAMES Comey was the seventh Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the USA until he was dismissed in May 2017 by Donald Trump. The 57-year-old former lawyer replaced Robert Mueller after being nominated by then President Barack Obama. Why did Donald Trump fire James Comey? Trump dismissed Comey on May 9, 2017, less than four year into his 10-year term. Comey learned of his dismissal via TV news reports. Initially the reason given by the White House for Comey being fired was due to a recommendation by the US Attorney General Jeff Sessions and his deputy Rod Rosenstein. Rosenstein had sent a memo to Sessions, forwarded to Trump, which listed objections to Comey's actions during the investigation into Senator Hillary Clinton's emails. However, it later emerged that Trump had requested, on May 8, Sessions and Rosenstein detail in writing a case against Comey. Trump told reports on May 10 he had fired Comey because he "wasn't doing a good job". CBS News has obtained recovered texts of former FBI agents Peter Strzok and Lisa Page that were being sent to Capitol Hill Thursday. These texts include the reaction of the two to the firing of FBI Director James Comey on May 9, 2017. A few days after he was fired, on May 13, Strzok wrote to Page, "Having a tough time processing tonight, Lis. Feeling a profound sense of loss." Page responded, "I feel that same loss. I want to see what the FBI could become under him! His vision of greatness for our strong but flawed organization. I'm angry. Angry and mourning." Strzok and Page, who both worked on the Hillary Clinton email server investigation and subsequently on the FBI's investigation into Russian election meddling in the 2016 election, became known for their anti-Trump text message exchanges. In January, the Department of Justice delivered 9,000 of those texts to Congress. But the FBI in January said it was also missing texts for about a five-month period from Dec. 14, 2016, to May … [Read more...] about Recovered FBI agent texts include reaction to James Comey’s firing
WASHINGTON — Former FBI Director James Comey joined WTOP on Wednesday to discuss his new book, in which he sharply criticizes President Donald Trump, compares him to a Mafia boss and said he is threatening American ideals. Comey said the revelations in the book don’t jeopardize the work of investigators, led by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who are probing potential ties between Trump’s 2016 campaign and Russia. “My testimony is already locked down,” Comey told WTOP. “I gave it under oath to the Senate a year ago. In fact, even before then, it was locked down because I wrote memos about key events and so there really isn’t a serious risk that my story will somehow change. It’s in concrete, frankly, and I’ve offered it to the Senate and to the American people, already.” Some critics have chided Comey for apparently taking cheap shots at Trump, by including references to president’s height and hand size in the book. … [Read more...] about Ex-FBI Director James Comey on Donald Trump: ‘I’m not trying to pick on the guy’
Former Attorney General Loretta Lynch says fired FBI Director James Comey didn't raise any concerns when she directed him in 2015 to label the bureau's probe into Hillary Clinton's private email server a "matter" as opposed to an "investigation." But, nearly two years later, Comey gave a different recollection of events during testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee, telling lawmakers that Lynch's directive "confused and concerned" him. Lynch drew attention to Comey's apparent conflicting remarks during an NBC News interview set to air in full Monday night. "It was a meeting like any other that we had had where we talked about the issues. We had a full and open discussion about it and concerns were not raised," Lynch said. Comey, FBI cleared of misleading Congress in San Bernardino probe Lynch said the sit-down took place in the early fall of 2015.
