Unmarried women, whether Black or White or Latina, think differently than married women in an important way, and that difference may help explain why single women vote reliably for Democrats and married women do not. This new insight into the psychology of voting was documented by political scientists Christopher Stout, Kelsy Kretschmer, and Leah Ruppanner in a just-published study in Political Research Quarterly, “Gender linked fate, race/ethnicity, and the marriage gap in American politics.” Democrats have a friend in single women, who vote for them disproportionately. In the 2016 Presidential election, for example, 63% of unmarried women voted for Clinton. In 2012, when Obama faced off against Romney, unmarried women favored Obama even more – 67% of them voted for him. Married women, in contrast, favored Clinton by just a sliver (2% more voted for her than for Trump). In 2012, they slightly favored Romney. One way to understand the marital status difference in … [Read more...] about What’s in It for Women? Vs. What’s in It for My Husband?

Women vs. Men: Not the Same Brain It will likely come as no surprise to you that men and women are very, very different. And I’m not just talking about the exterior stuff that you can see pretty clearly any time you want if you know where to look on the Internet. The simple truth is that our interior construction is different, too - especially our brains. For starters, male brains are approximately nine percent larger, with the extra brain matter being mostly white matter, the part of the brain that transmits signals between cells. However, women have a more evolved corpus callosum, the portion of the brain that facilities communication between the left hemisphere and the right. (Generally speaking, our left brain controls logic, analytical thinking, and objectivity, whereas our right brain controls intuition, synthesis, and subjectivity.) So we conclude that that male brains have more connectivity between nearby cells, while female brains have more connectivity between the two … [Read more...] about Female Sexual Arousal: Why Viagra Doesn’t Work on Women
Source: Sam Louie As a soon to be expectant father of a baby boy, my views on parenting continue to get stretched. More than the physical hardships of sleep deprivation, loss of personal time, and increased responsibilities come the realities that he will need more than food, water, and shelter. Yes the baby will need to be fed and clothed appropriately but healthy parenting will require attention to his emotional world and being in sync with his inner feelings. In psychology, some of this is called “mirroring” which in essence is a parent’s ability to correctly “mirror” what the child is experiencing emotionally and/or physically and consistently meeting that need. Regardless of how well the child’s needs are met, the child will quickly develop (some say within the first 2 years of life) what’s known as an “internal working model”. In Attachment Theory, the internal working model is how the child (and later the … [Read more...] about Food, Water, Shelter
