Slow Mind More Creative
Home Health Wellness Wellness on April 1, 2010 A new American study reminds us that a slow brain can nurture more creative ideas. Creativity is associated with the low levels of the chemical N-Acetylasparate, found in neurons. Creativity promotes neural health and metabolism. But the neurons constitute brain's grey matter, the tissue long thought to be linked with thinking power, rather than creativity. The white matter in the brain largely comprises the fatty myelin sheaths that wrap around neurons. Less myelin signifies the white matter has a lower 'integrity' and transmits information more slowly. The white matter of high integrity in the cortex is linked to higher mental function which means increased intelligence. Divergent thinking is a factor in creativity that includes coming up with the new ideas. The people who participated had been tested, with their capacity for divergent thinking. The scientists could … [Read more...] about Slow Mind More Creative

Cold Weather, Fewer Sun Hours Increase Alcoholic Cirrhosis
Home Health Wellness Wellness on April 29, 2017 People in colder and less sunny regions of the world have higher rates of alcoholic cirrhosis, a disease caused by excessive drinking which results in irreversible scarring of the liver, scientists have found. A new data from more than 190 countries presented on Saturday at the International Liver Congress 2017 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, suggests that every increase in temperature of one degree Celsius was linked with a decrease in the alcohol-attributable fraction (AAF) of cirrhosis of 0.3 per cent.
