Media: Sun-Sentinel SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) — A Republican candidate for the Florida Legislature who falsely claimed she had a college degree and posted a purported copy of her diploma online dropped out of her race on Tuesday. Melissa Howard told the Sarasota Herald-Tribune it was the right decision to drop out of the race for the Florida House seat. "I made a terrible error in judgment," Howard said. "I am thankful for everyone who gave so much toward my success, and I am deeply sorry." 1 out of 5 men who didn’t go to college don’t have jobs. Here’s why
Erin Wolcott is an assistant professor of economics at Middlebury College. The unemployment rate has plunged to about the lowest level in half a century. Yet at least one group of Americans is being left behind: men who didn't go to college. Just 78 percent of men aged 25-54 who never went to college were employed in 2016, the latest year for which data are available in the American Community Survey. That contrasts with about 90 percent for those who have at least one year of college and is a big change from the 1950s, when employment rates for college and non-college men were the same. Woman who dropped out of school without a SINGLE GCSE becomes doctor 15 years later
A SCHOOL drop-out whose teenage years were blighted by depression and alcoholism has told how she turned her life around to land her dream job as a doctor. Jo Barton’s prospects didn’t look good when she left school in Harlow, Essex, at the age of 14 without any GCSEs. The period saw her mother sectioned on a number of occasions with bipolar disorder. But through determination and hard graft the 32-year-old confounded expectations to become a qualified doctor three years ago. She recalled: “My teenage years are where it all went wrong really. “I left school at 14, halfway through year 10, and I ended up skipping a lot and I wasn’t living at home. “I got into alcohol at an early age – about 13 – and I was drinking every single day. “I think I was probably depressed but I didn’t know it at the time. “I turned to alcohol and then I began to rebel and that got me into lots of trouble as a teenager.” Deciding to turn … [Read more...] about Woman who dropped out of school without a SINGLE GCSE becomes doctor 15 years later
