Acupuncture Beneficial In Lowering Hypertension

November 2, 2016 by www.boldsky.com

Home Health Wellness Wellness on November 2, 2016 Regular electroacupuncture treatment can lower hypertension by increasing the release of a kind of opioid in the brainstem region that controls blood pressure, suggests a study. Hypertension may often lead to major health problems such as stroke and heart attacks. The researchers from the University of California - Irvine, conducted the test on rats and noted that reduced blood pressure lasted for at least three days after electroacupuncture by increasing the gene expression of enkephalins, which one of the three major opioid peptides produced by the body. The study which appeared in the journal Scientific Reports showed that repetitive electroacupuncture evoked a long-lasting action in lowering blood pressure in hypertension, suggesting that this therapy may be suitable for treating clinical hypertension. Women Are At Greater Risk Of Stroke, The More Miscarriages Or Stillbirths They’ve Had

June 24, 2022 by www.boldsky.com

Home Pregnancy parenting Basics Basics on June 24, 2022 New research shows women who have had a miscarriage or stillbirth, have an increased risk of stroke - when blood can't get to the brain, because of a blocked or burst artery. That risk increases with each miscarriage or stillbirth. Trying to establish this link is difficult because it requires following a large number of women over a long period of time and having reliable data on women's experiences. Our study, published by the British Medical Journal today, is the first to conclusively show the link between pregnancy loss and stroke. Many women are unaware their experiences during pregnancy can be an early marker of later health dangers. Our findings show their doctors should be alert to their increased risk. It's possible infertility, miscarriage, and stillbirth could increase stroke risk because of other health issues. These could include endocrine disorders … [Read more...] about Women Are At Greater Risk Of Stroke, The More Miscarriages Or Stillbirths They’ve Had

15-Year-Old Girl With Fused Kidney Undergoes Robotic Surgery

June 21, 2022 by www.boldsky.com

Home Health Wellness Wellness on June 21, 2022 A 15-year-old girl, born with a single-fused kidney, underwent a robotic surgery at a private facility here for the removal of a tennis ball-sized renal cyst, said doctors. According to doctors at BLK-Max Super Speciality Hospital, the case was challenging as the doctors had to ensure the removal of the cyst with minimal damage to the solitary kidney of the child along with its blood vessels and ureter. In this case, the renal vessels and ureter were abnormally intermingled with the cyst and injury to any of these structures would have been catastrophic to the patient, said the hospital. The girl was born with developmental abnormalities that caused both her kidneys to fuse together on the left side and she had an absent right kidney. She came to the hospital with complaints of on and off pain in the left flank for over 18 months. The cyst measured 10X10 cm … [Read more...] about 15-Year-Old Girl With Fused Kidney Undergoes Robotic Surgery

Aminoglycoside antibiotics is used by approximately 70,000 people worldwide who inherited the chronic disease that affects mostly the lungs, but also the pancreas, liver, kidneys and intestine. The findings showed that patients who were administered a high dose of the antibiotics to reduce their respiratory infections were 4.79 times more likely to experience permanent hearing loss. A situation that could further worsen due to isolation, depression and cognitive decline in such patients.
