For example, I had been monitoring an athlete in my clinic recently, and we noticed a spike in the anger domain on his daily symptom checklist. We called the parents to find out what was going on. We learned he was anxious and worried about not participating in school, falling behind and getting bad grades. He felt isolated from his peers. So, he decided to go off the protocol and return to school letting us know, or allowing us to set up an appropriate academic care plan. He went on his own, and couldn’t take it. He couldn’t focus, felt nauseated, and went to nurse’s office. He went home was really upset with himself and kicked trash can, and punched a wall.
