Yet, there is a certain hollowness to the wealth equals happiness equation that Maslow understood. Maslow and Money Maslow did not think of money itself as a need. Rather, it could be used to satisfy some of the needs that are lower on the hierarchy and get satisfied earliest but do not add up to happiness.
