OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA By Makda Zewde, NPHR Editor Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States. More than 40,000 Americans lose their lives to suicide every year, at a rate which has been increasing steadily since 1999. Worldwide, this number is close to 800,000 — approximately one person every 40 seconds. Last November, Facebook released a statement announcing that its pattern recognition software, which aims to detect users with potential suicidal intent, will become available to most of its users worldwide. The artificial intelligence product was initially tested only in the U.S., but after successful testing, the company announced plans to make it available in other countries, with the exception of the EU, which has unique data privacy restrictions. With more than 2 billion monthly users , the social media platform can have a broad impact on suicide prevention. Its new technology aims to identify the intent of self-harm using data … [Read more...] about Facebook uses AI to help prevent suicide

As they continue to contradict themselves in their attempt to discredit (and ultimately impeach) the president of the United States, millions of Americans across the country are laughing at them. One example of this blatant hypocrisy has to do with the current controversy surrounding Facebook and the UK data firm Cambridge Analytica, whereby the personal information of roughly 50 million American users of the social network was collected and, according to Mark Zuckerberg, used to help the Trump campaign get inside of people’s heads to ultimately win the presidential election. It’s … [Read more...] about Democrats had no problem with Facebook sharing all your private details with the Obama campaign; only after TRUMP won were alarms raised

Filed on March 6, 2018, by a Facebook employee who used to work at a telepresence robotics company, the patent reveals how the robot will work, complete with pictures of its Segway-like design as it rolls about and transitions back and forth between two- or three-wheel functionality, depending on the terrain. According to evidence compiled by a man from New Zealand, this appears to be the case, and many are now asking themselves: Why is Facebook owner Mark Zuckerberg not being prosecuted for these privacy crimes? Dylan McKay discovered this covert monitoring scheme by Facebook after perusing information about himself and his contacts that Facebook had apparently stored in an archive. Based on what he was able to pull up, McKay was shocked to learn that Facebook had stored about two years’ worth of phone call metadata, or basic incoming and outgoing call information, from his Android phone – including names, phone numbers, and length of calls made. … [Read more...] about Facebook apps vacuumed up all your calls and emails from your mobile phone… FOR YEARS… why no prison for Zuckerberg?

And spurring things along is Tesla founder Elon Musk, who recently announced on Twitter that he’s done with Facebook forever. Not only did Musk, who also serves as CEO of SpaceX, delete his personal Facebook account as part of the growing “#deletefacebook” trend, but he also scrapped the corporate Facebook accounts of both SpaceX and Tesla. Like many, Musk has expressed outrage over Facebook’s scheming with Cambridge Analytica, announcing that he’s done contributing to a company that … [Read more...] about Elon Musk deletes all his Facebook accounts as #deletefacebook trend explodes worldwide
