Designated for assignment out of spring training, unwanted by 29 other teams, Hardy not only worked his way back to the Tigers, he’s put himself in a position to be a full-time member of the starting rotation next season. “I don’t want to say I was on my last legs,” Hardy said earlier this year. “But I wasn’t sure how much longer I was going to be able to do this. So, I just told myself, if this is it, then I’m going to go out and enjoy it. I am going to have fun playing this game.” Hardy’s first step back came when he was put into the starting rotation at Toledo. There he developed and polished a cutter-slider hybrid that has revitalized his career. PRINCE Harry’s charity heroine has been told she cannot return to school to take her A-Levels because she has had too much time off sick. Evie Toombes, 16, met Harry and Meghan at a WellChild charity event last week where she won the Inspirational Young Person Award. Showjumper Evie, is battling two incurable conditions including spina bifida, an illness that causes a gap in the spine, and a paralysed stomach. Evie’s attendance at Skegness Grammar School in Lincolnshire fell to below 50 per cent but she was allowed to sit some exams in hospital. But Evie was denied admission to Skegness Grammar’s Sixth Form where she wanted to take English and Psychology at A-Level. Picture : ANTONY KELLY A former head of social work alleges she was “pressurised” into resigning after the council failed to make adjustments for her illness. Donna Ashdown has now taken Norfolk County Council to tribunal for disability discrimination.Bringing a claim of constructive dismissal, the council’s former head of social care in south Norfolk said she had to work up to 70 hours a week. Mrs Ashdown, from Bunwell, was treated for cancer in 2001 and suffers from a condition called Lymphoedema.It means she has swellings in her arm and can not drive long distances. Sunderland among football clubs criticised for disabled access
The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has criticised four current and former Premier League clubs for failing to make voluntary commitments to comply with minimum standards for disabled access.
