ATLANTA — When it comes to roster construction and maintaining his still-enduring Patriots dynasty, Bill Belichick doesn’t just have a type. He has types, plural. There is no room for conventional wisdom, either. These are the types Belichick values, not those NFL Combine superheroes that self-appointed gurus talk up before the draft. We’ve seen this, marveled at it, for 19 seasons now. Whenever the Eagles lose a game, Monday can be a very emotional day in Philly. And this week, it seemed even worse than usual following Sunday's overtime loss to the Titans. That's due in large part to the way in which the Eagles lost, a microcosm for what's been plaguing the defending Super Bowl champions throughout the first month of the 2018 NFL season. The secondary was a liability. The offensive line struggled to protect their franchise quarterback. There were costly penalties at key times. Doug Pederson's play calling doesn't seem as sharp. And the list goes on.Yet, here we sit a quarter of the way through the season, and the Eagles are 2-2, a half game behind Washington for the NFC East lead, and are just one or two plays from being 3-1 or even 4-0. So why does it feel like the sky is falling in Philadelphia?Perhaps, as defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz pointed out on Tuesday, the Birds are also one or two plays away from sending this city into an all out panic."You can look at … [Read more...] about What they’re saying: Maybe the Eagles just aren’t that good this year
The Philadelphia Eagles will look to improve to 3-1 on Sunday when they pay a visit to Nashville for the first time in eight years to face the Tennessee Titans, who are also 2-1 on the season thanks to an upset win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.Quarterback Marcus Mariota will be back starting under center for the Titans despite a lingering elbow injury after backup Blaine Gabbert suffered a concussion against the Jaguars, while the Eagles are expected to get a pair of their injured offensive starters, Alshon Jeffery and Jay Ajayi, back on the field supporting Carson Wentz, who made his 2018 debut in Week 3 against the Colts. As we do every week, let's take a look at five numbers worth watching in the form of our Eagles over/unders.Total points: 41.0That's the current total being offered over at Bovada, and while it's low, it doesn't quite seem low enough for these two teams. Why? Well, for one, there are big questions at quarterback for both teams with Mariota still injured and Wentz … [Read more...] about Five over/unders for Eagles’ Week 4 matchup vs. Titans

He breaks down the Patriots for The Detroit News, answering five questions heading into Sunday’s game against the Lions. You can follow him on Twitter @KevinRDuffy. Question: What, if any, impact does Bill Belichick and Matt Patricia's relationship have on game planning for this matchup? Duffy: Probably not a huge impact. Patricia is familiar with the way Josh McDaniels calls games. He'll have a solid grasp on what the Patriots will try to do offensively. But how much will that matter? From a distance, the Lions’ defense appears to be a mess. So even if Patricia has an idea of what the Pats want to do, I'm not sure Detroit will be able to stop them. And on the other side of … [Read more...] about View from the other side: Detroit Lions vs. Patriots
