The Detroit News Published 9:31 PM EST Nov 12, 2018 Eastern Michigan joined Western Michigan as bowl eligible teams with a dominating 27-7 win over Akron Saturday afternoon at Rynearson Stadium. But, Western second-year head coach Tim Lester knows well that bowl eligible doesn’t necessarily mean your team will be competing in a bowl game. The Broncos were one of two teams to be sitting home with 6-6 records last season, a year after they won the MAC championship and played in the Cotton Bowl. Yes, the Broncos and Eagles will both be looking for a seventh win to guarantee them a spot in a bowl game during the holiday season. Eastern had 20 consecutive non-winning seasons before earning its first winning season since 1995 in 2016 when the Eagles finished 7-6, losing to Old Dominion in the Popeyes Bahamas Bowl. CFP extends deals with Cotton, Fiesta, Peach bowls
Associated Press Published 8:00 p.m. UTC Jul 13, 2018 Irving, Texas — The College Football Playoff agreements for the Cotton Bowl Classic, Fiesta Bowl and Peach Bowl have been extended six years through 2026. Bill Hancock, executive director of the College Football Playoff, made the announcement Friday. “The communities of greater Dallas, Phoenix and Atlanta have fully embraced the opportunity to be a part of this very popular event and to showcase the unique opportunities they offer to visitors,” Hancock said. The three bowl games will host a CFP game every year during the six-year period: the semifinals twice, and other non-playoff games assigned by the CFP selection committee four times.
