An exclusive women’s-only health club whose members include Princess Eugenie, Pippa Middleton and Cara Delevingne has closed, the Standard can reveal. Bosses at the £5,500-a-year Grace Belgravia — billed as a sanctuary from the stresses of London life — contacted shocked staff over the weekend to warn them of the “extremely painful” decision to shut it down for good from last night. Co-founder Kate Percival, who set up the elite haven on West Halkin Street as an “inclusive sorority of like-minded women” in 2012, today posted a statement on its website blaming Brexit for the move. It said: “I regret to advise the Grace Belgravia has ceased operations and the Club has closed.” The statement continued: “One word explains why — Brexit. In 1942, when she was broke, the war leader feared it could be used to blackmail him so he got her to return to the UK with it. After she died of an … [Read more...] about Who was Lady Castlerosse, how was she related to Cara Delevingne and did she have an affair with Winston Churchill?

THE family of a Brit World War 1 soldier have told how they found his long lost writings after 100 years while cleaning out their mum’s house. Second Lieutenant Hamish Mann’s death in 1917 during the Battle of Arras left his family so devastated that they could barely talk about him. His great-niece and great-nephew grew up knowing little about the man who died just after his 21st birthday on a French battlefield. But an incredible discovery 100 years after his death has kept his memory alive — and will bring his writings from the frontline to a new generation. By chance, his relatives Rosemary and Robert Stewart found a cherrywood box containing his moving accounts of life on the frontline in their mum’s house and, along with author Jacquie Buttriss, they’ve turned it into a book. Jacquie explained: “When I saw it I was so impressed — I had never come across such a comprehensive collection of First World War writings, fresh from the trenches. … [Read more...] about Family of Brit WW1 soldier find long lost writings after 100 years while cleaning out mum’s house
