These results provide first evidence on how cannabidiol can directly influence the brain to reduce psychotic symptoms. The King’s College London team was curious to see how CBD changed brain function after it was recently licensed in the U.S. to treat rare childhood epilepsy. Their clinical trial demonstrated that cannabidiol does indeed have antipsychotic properties. “Our results have started unraveling the brain mechanisms of a new drug that works in a … [Read more...] about A single dose of cannabis extract can alleviate brain abnormalities in people suffering from psychosis

IT has been years since legal highs were banned, yet cannabis substitutes appear to be more in use than ever. Their inventor dubbed them unfit for human consumption - but what are Spice and Black Mamba and what do they do? Here's everything we know about the harmful substances and the havoc they can wreak. What is synthetic cannabis and why is it called the zombie drug? The synthetic cannabinoids collectively known as Spice are made up of a range of amphetamines and other laboratory-created chemicals that vary wildly from batch to batch. Users smoke, drink or eat Spice, often in tea. Before the ban on psychoactive substances in 2016, it was being sold either over the counter or online under a variety of brand names such as Annihilation and GoCaine. It is highly addictive with withdrawal symptoms said to be worse than coming off crack or heroin. Users can suffer vomiting, seizures, terrifying hallucinations and severe psychotic episodes after consuming the drug. … [Read more...] about What are Black Mamba and Spice, is synthetic cannabis illegal in the UK and why are ‘zombie drugs’ so dangerous?

Marijuana is the most commonly used illicit drug in the United States, but little is known about its effect on health or how addictive it is. According to a 2017 poll conducted by Marist College and Yahoo News, more than half of American adults have tried marijuana at least once in their lives, and nearly 55 million of them, or 22 percent, say they use it currently. "Surprisingly, many … [Read more...] about Chronic pot use may have serious effects on the brain, experts say

The FDA just granted orphan drug designation (ODD) to Insys Therapeutics for its pharmaceutical-grade, proprietary cannabidiol (CBD) product for treating cancer tumors in humans. Although glioma tumors affect less than 200,000 Americans, this FDA approval sets a precedent for natural remedies, and could lead to a revolutionary way to legally treat many forms of cancer with natural cures. In justifying preliminary approval of utilizing CBD to treat brain and spinal cancer tumors of this kind, Insys Therapeutics provided the FDA with the scientific rationale for CBD’s benefits, including human … [Read more...] about CBD Bombshell: Cannabis approved by the FDA for treatment of brain and spinal cord glioma cancer tumors
TEENAGERS who use cannabis delay the development of their brain, says a study. It also found dope use among adolescents had a “more pronounced and lasting” negative effect on the brain than alcohol. The study, published in the American Journal of Psychiatry, examined the relationship between alcohol, cannabis use and cognitive development among Canadian adolescents. Dr Patricia Conrod, of the Universite de Montreal, said: “The message to young people who wish to succeed in school and their adult life is that they should do what they can to delay their cannabis use as much as possible. “A regular cannabis user in the 10th grade was three years behind their peers in their development of inhibitory control and equivalent to their non-cannabis using peers in the seventh grade.” Researchers from CHU Sainte-Justine and Universite de Montreal in Canada carried out the research over a period of four years, studying 3,800 adolescent subjects.
