Between 2005 and 2016 Khan was MP for Tooting in South London, a role he quit when becoming Mayor. A STUDENT whose head swelled up to TWICE its normal size in a botched drugs trial has claimed he is yet to receive a penny in compensation - 12 years on. "Elephant Man" Nav Modi screamed in agony as he felt like his brain was on fire and his eyeballs were going to pop out. Nav, then 24, and five other volunteers were left fighting for life following the trial at Northwick Park Hospital in London in March 2006. Scientists said the drug had already been tried on two monkeys which suffered no ill effects. But the student was left writhing in agony just an hour after it had been given to him. Terrified Nav, who lived in Forest Gate, East London, suffered multiple organ failure and spent four days in intensive care. Twelve years later he claims the drugs firm are refusing to pay out a single penny in compensation or even offer an apology. And the dad-of-one says he was made to feel like he was a criminal. A CAT was so upset at being taken away from his family that he walked 12 miles home to find them - only for the heartless owners to ask vets to put him down. Toby the ginger tabby was given away by his family, but confused at why they had abandoned him, trekked all the way home to return. But upon his arrival, the family were far from happy to see him. Instead of welcoming him back into the fold, they took him to a local shelter and asked the shocked staff if they could euthanize the poor animal. Luckily for the adorable Toby, the shelter didn't carry out their request, and instead contacted a local animal charity and explained what had happened. The SPCA animal shelter in North Carolina shared the cat's heartbreaking story on social media. They wrote: "When Toby's family no longer wanted him, they gave him to another family. INDIA’S Prime Minister pledged his country’s key support to Theresa May’s Brexit plans yesterday - vowing to become an even closer partner with Britain after our EU exit. Narendra Modi said London’s world-leading role in the financial sector meant Britain would remain “of great importance” after Brexit. He reassured Mrs May that there would be “no dilution in the importance of the UK to India post-Brexit,” No10 said. And Mr Modi hailed Brexit as an opportunity to “further increase trade ties” between the two nations. He handed Mrs May another bonus by striking £1 billion in commercial investments, which will create or safeguard 5,750 UK jobs. STABBINGS are on the rise as new figures show a surge in violent crime across the UK. But how many took place in London and how much have they increased by? At least 35 people have been fatally stabbed in London since the beginning of the year. Met Police records show 37, 443 recorded knife offences and 6,694 recorded gun offences across the UK in the year up to September 2017. In London, the problem was even more pronounced than the rest of the country, with 12,980 knife crimes taking place in the capital - 2,452 more than the equivalent year.
