THE third man suspected of stabbing teen Jodie Chesney to death as she listened to music in an East London park with friends has faced court. Svenson Ong-a-kwie, 18, was charged with murder almost a week after the popular 17-year-old Girl Scout was knifed on March 1. The Surinamese national, of East London, today appeared at Barkingside Magistrates Court in a grey tracksuit. The teen remained expressionless as he spoke only to confirm his name and address. Sending Ong-a-kwie to the Old Bailey for trial, magistrate Garry Lucie said: "You have been charged with murder on the 1 March, murdering Jodie Chesney." The matter will next be heard next Monday morning. Detectives have already charged Manuel Petrovic, 20, and a 16-year-old boy over the murder of the young Explorer Scout. Boy joins girl scouts
MK could soon boast the biggest single scout group in the UK as part of a unique bid to deal with the 1000-strong waiting list of youngsters wanting to join. Local scouting bosses plan to be prepared for once and for all by leasing a massive warehouse on an industrial estate - big enough to hundreds of boys and girls inside. But the cost of the 7,500 sq ft premises, along with the heating and upkeep, will total around £500,000 over the next five years.“Most of that will come back in subs from the young people, but it is a scary huge amount of money to be considering,” said Stuart Ball, the growth and development lead for Milton Keynes District Scouting movement. He added: “With the guilt that only 1000 young people wanting Scouting, but no spaces, can bring, the District Commissioner said to me “It’s a Go Big, or Go Home moment isn’t it?’ Yes it is.....We want to have a serious look at making this a goer.”The warehouse … [Read more...] about Be prepared as Milton Keynes could soon be home to the world’s biggest scout hut?

In the two years since Russia made headlines for targeting an American political organization – the Democratic National Committee – and undermining Hillary Clinton’s race for the presidency, Russian information warfare tactics have come a long way. That includes using more subtle means of hiding their traces. Recently, Microsoft announced that it had detected Russians targeting conservative think tanks. The Russians are not just aiming to influence political activities in the U.S. Rather, it’s extremely likely that they will soon target American civic society. They’re the local sports teams, charities, Kiwanis and Lions clubs, churches and even community groups like the Boy Scouts. Those are the groups that knit together a community and a society, providing connections that keep legitimate disagreement from exploding into acrimony and sharp divisions. It may be hard to imagine Russia going after the Boy Scouts. But consider how Russia is seeking to sow … [Read more...] about Why the Russians might hack the Boy Scouts next
A GIRL Scout is suing the Scout Association for £200,000 after suffering horrific burns in a campfire accident. Camille de Maximy claims she was permanently scarred aged 15 when flames engulfed her after a fellow scout poured methylated spirit on a campfire. The teen had to be airlifted to hospital and spent almost a month in a special trauma unit receiving treatment for burns to her neck, body and legs. She claims she has been disfigured, despite repeated operations and skin grafts, and now suffers low self-esteem and has had to give up activities including tennis and dance because of her injuries, the Daily Express reports. Camille now 18-years-old and her mum Maxine, 48, are suing the Scout Association for alleged negligence over the way they supervised the camp. Her lawyers argue the association failed in its duty of care to the youngster. Camille, from Bromley, Kent, was part of the district’s 25th Scout group when she joined the Nights Away Scheme as part of her … [Read more...] about Girl scout left permanently scarred after suffering horrific burns in campfire accident on overnight trip
