Robert Cianflone/Getty Images It's going to take more than a bit of open heart surgery to bring down the Austrian Oak. Arnold Schwarzenegger is reportedly "doing much better" after his late-March procedure — a near-death experience that the 70-year-old bodybuilding icon responded to with a damn Terminator quote. But maybe we shouldn't be surprised Schwarzenegger handled things like such a champ. The Predator star has stayed in fantastic shape decades after he was first crowned Mr. Olympia in 1970. Sure, it was a young Arnie that electrified the U.S. bodybuilding scene with his beachball-sized biceps and unique Pumping Iron charisma — who could forget his thoughts on "the pump"? — but it's the fact that Schwarzenegger still crushes workouts well past his action movie heyday that inspires us to get into the gym every day. Last Updated Mar 30, 2018 8:22 PM EDT Actor and former governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger has undergone heart surgery, but contrary to some reports, it was a planned procedure, according to his production company's chief of staff, Daniel Ketchell. Earlier reports claimed that the former "Celebrity Apprentice" host had emergency open-heart surgery. The 70-year-old is in stable condition, said Ketchell. In a statement on Twitter, Ketchell explained that Schwarzenegger had an pulmonic valve replaced at Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles on Thursday. The valve was originally replaced in 1997 due to a congenital heart defect."That 1997 replacement valve was never meant to be permanent, and outlived its life expectancy, so he chose to replace it yesterday through a less invasive catheter valve replacement," Ketchell wrote. Ketchell said an open-heart surgery team was on standby -- "as they frequently are in such circumstances" -- just in case the less-invasive catheter procedure … [Read more...] about Arnold Schwarzenegger undergoes heart surgery
The official website of Calum von Moger says the bodybuilder was "skinny and not very strong" when he first started stacking plates inside an old warehouse in his native rural Australia. A lot has changed since then. The kid from Victoria has since won Mr. Universe three times, overcome a pretty heinous bicep tear, and is set to make the leap from gym to screen in 2018, playing a young Arnold Schwarzenegger in the upcoming biopic Bigger. (It's a miracle he has any time for chocolate milk these days.) Men's Health: What were some of your earlier inspirations? What got you into fitness? Calum von Moger: My brother got me into it, he took me to the gym when I was 14 or 15. But the first bodybuilder I ever saw was Steve Reeves, in that classic movie Hercules. I thought he was just the best-looking … [Read more...] about Calum von Moger Reveals the Pose Arnold Schwarzenegger Told Him to Practice Every Day
Actor and bodybuilding icon Arnold Schwarzenegger is joining Oscar-nominee Michael Fassbender and David Hasselhoff in the feature-length sequel to Kung Fury, which is a sentence we’re honestly still trying to process. The original Kung Fury, written and directed by Swedish filmmaker David Sandberg, is a 2015 short film-turned-cult sensation. Also starring Sandberg as the “best damn cop in the world,” Fury is a bizarre, neon-tinged homage and send-up of 80’s martial arts films and police dramas. Honestly, it’s one hell of a watch, and only runs about 30 minutes. Go ahead, take the time out of your Friday. We’ll be here. Fassbender joined the cast last week in an unspecified role, an interesting move as a follow-up to last year's critically panned The Snowman. Hasselhoff, who appeared … [Read more...] about Arnold Schwarzenegger Is Joining the ‘Kung Fury’ Movie Because Why the Hell Not?
Great news today for Western fans and anyone who ever thought it’d be funny to see the Terminator wearing a cowboy hat. Deadline reports that Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to executive-produce and star in Outrider, an Oklahoma-set western being developed by Amazon.Taking place in the 1800s, the series will reportedly follow a deputy “tasked by a notoriously brutal judge with apprehending a legendary outlaw in the wilderness.” Schwarzenegger — in his first small-screen role, unless you count a single season of Celebrity Apprentice — will play a “ruthless Federal Marshal” who emigrated from Europe the United States, presumably to explain why an Oklahoman Federal Marshal has an Austrian accent. No word yet on who will play the deputy (although we know someone who already has the boots) or the judge. But one thing that’s clear is that Schwarzenegger can still play a badass with the best of them. The 70-year-old former governor constantly takes … [Read more...] about Arnold Schwarzenegger Is Set to Star in a Western TV Series
