I DOUBT anyone was all that surprised to hear the One Show presenter Alex Jones revealing that the BBC is a little, ahem, stuck in the Dark Ages when it comes to working mothers. Specifically, she said that while the BBC says all the right things about supporting new mothers, it does not follow through. Alex is one of the network’s highest-profile female presenters but she still felt the need to return to work three months after having her son Teddy last January. This was partly because she feared losing her job. Alex says now she thinks she went back too soon. But she also says things could have been so much better if there had been more facilities for new mothers. She had hoped to continue breastfeeding, but “threw in the towel” after finding it impossible to find anywhere she could express milk during work breaks.
