American Airlines has axed its multi-billion pound order with Airbus to buy a fleet of Boeing Dreamliner jets. Boeing beat its rivals to the order and will supply 47 of the long-haul, two-aisle aircraft, in a deal worth more than £8 billion. The new planes will join American by 2020, with the first arrivals replacing Boeing 767 jets, and later deliveries starting in 2023 will replace Airbus A330 and older Boeing 777 jets in American's fleet. American already has 35 787s, which it flies on international routes. The deal is another blow for Airbus, coming just weeks after Hawaiian Airlines dropped an order for six Airbus A330-800neo jets in favour of the 787. American Airlines President Robert Isom said in a statement said: “This was a difficult decision between the Boeing 787 and the Airbus A350 and A330neo and we thank both manufacturers for their aggressive efforts to earn more of American's business. “In the end, our goal to simplify our fleet made the 787 a more … [Read more...] about American Airlines CANCELS multi-billion pound Airbus order in favour of Boeing Dreamliners deal
By now, we've all accumulated more than our fair share of airplane horror stories, whether derived from terrible turbulence, crying children, inconsiderate attendants, or what have you. (Need some help suriving the airport? We've got you covered.) In the case of 67-year-old Australian flyer Michael Anthony Taylor, the problem here was a pair of obese passengers who made his 14-hour flight a living hell.Taylor was flying on American Airlines in 2015, from Sydney to Los Angeles, when it happened. For reasons unknown, he is only just now filing the suit, but he says the damage from the experience has been lasting. Because of the girth of his fellow passengers, he was “crouching, kneeling, bracing, or standing" for the entire flight, per a report from the Sydney Daily Telegraph. The stress, he says, exacerbated his scoliosis and led to additional damage to his back and neck. As a result, he's suing American Airlines to the tune of $100,000. However, he insists that he holds no ill … [Read more...] about Man Suing American Airlines Claims Obese Passengers Crushed Him
(Natural News) When law enforcement officers entered an American Airlines plane to escort one of the passengers off the craft, they expected an extremely intoxicated individual. Michael Mennella greeted them instead. The shaky hobble that American Airline personnel took as a sign of Mennella’s inebriation was actually the result of him being a double amputee with no feet. Why he was staggering down the plane aisle in the first place was simple: he wanted to ask for water to drink his pain medication after he was forced to cross the jet bridge on his stumps. American Airlines forgot to provide him with the wheelchair he requested prior to the flight.Menella’s ordeal occurred on August 28, 2016, while the suit that followed was filed in federal court in Miami just recently. As reported by MiamiNewTimes.com, the suit stated that: “As demonstrated by police-administered field tests, and as revealed in an official field report, Mr. Mennella was not intoxicated. Instead, he … [Read more...] about American Airlines forgets double amputee’s wheelchair, has him kicked off the plane for being “a drunk”
(Natural News) Here we go again. Late last year, thousands of American Airlines employees said that the carrier’s new uniform caused a series of allergic reactions including eye swelling, rashes, skin blistering, and even vertigo. American repeatedly assured their employees that their new uniforms were safe and have since then distributed the uniforms to around 70,000 frontline employees. Now, 100 pilots are saying that their uniforms are making them ill. In an article on Bloomberg.com, American says they will survey these affected pilots and release an official statement soon. These new reports have angered various unions who say that American is not taking these health concerns seriously. Bob Ross, President of the Association of Professional Flight Attendants, filed an official grievance against the company. In it, Ross requested the company to recall all uniforms, grant sick leaves to affected flight attendants, reimburse them for the costs these allergic reactions have … [Read more...] about American Airlines pilots being sickened by toxic chemicals in uniforms
(Natural News) More than 70,000 new uniforms released as part of a long-awaited American Airlines employee apparel reboot are the subject of a potential recall after flight attendants, pilots, customer service agents, and airline club workers reportedly began experiencing serious adverse health effects as a result of their use.The fresh uniforms, which don a sharp slate gray, cobalt, and “crisp white” color scheme, are apparently far more appealing to the eye than they are to the skin and body, as complaints have been pouring in from airline employees who say they’re breaking out in hives, experiencing headaches, and developing rashes, among other symptoms.American Airlines has since launched an internal investigation, surmising that the issue may have something to do with the wool fiber used in the clothing that may be triggering allergic reactions. The nation’s largest independent flight attendant union, which represents some 25,000 airline employees at … [Read more...] about Thousands of American Airlines employees sickened by new uniforms … Toxic chemicals?
