BRITAIN will today be battered with heavy rain and gusts of up to 60mph - before we welcome glorious sunshine and 22C temperatures in the week. It followed off the back of the remnants of Hurricane Helene and is pummelling the UK with "extremely strong" gales. Here's the latest weather update. What's the UK weather forecast today? The UK is set to be hit by a weather system which is moving quickly eastwards across southern England, bringing a spell of persistent heavy rain as well as strong winds. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning between 7am and 3pm on Sunday for the south of England. The approaching storm is yet to be named by the Met, but it follows Ali and Bronagh which ravaged parts of Britain last week, bringing gales of up to 100mph. Heavy rain and threatening winds are expected throughout the day, and up to 30mm on rain is forecast, brining the potential for flooding in certain areas. BRITAIN will endure "crippling snowfalls" from November which could lead to the coldest winter in a decade after a record-breaking summer heatwave, an expert has warned. The mercury often rose to 35C throughout July as the UK enjoyed a long, hot summer but winter is projected to respond by bringing harsh conditions. Speaking to The Daily Express, James Madden, forecaster for Exacta Weather warned that Britain could be hit by four months of snow. While Saturday is due to start brightly with sunny spells, cloud will be increasing throughout the day, with light and patchy rain forecast for this afternoon.The Met Office said that Saturday would be ‘feeling chilly’.Dan Holley, of Norwich based weather station Weatherquest said: “As high pressure builds into next week, the nights will turn rather chilly - could we have our first air frost in the region on Monday night? The summer of 2018 is the gift that keeps on giving. On Friday, temperatures in Chur, the capital of Graubüden, hit the magic 30-degree mark, which indicates a 'hot' day for meteorologists.
