Picture: Bethany Whymark Archant A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a man charged with multiple offences in Norwich city centre. Matthew Morris, 54, of no fixed abode, was summoned to Norwich Magistrates Court on nine counts of failing to comply with a community protection notice, and one count of disorderly behaviour. Many of the offences were related to daytime drinking in Haymarket, Norwich. Nicola Pope, prosecuting, said Morris, who did not attend, had made a variety of responses to the charges. She asked for a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO). Natasha Baker, defending Morris, said that he had responded to all the charges and that issuing an order in his absence would be unfair, as he would be unaware of its existence. A seventh grader from Boone Grove Middle School was taken into police custody Wednesday afternoon on allegations he threatened to “shoot up” his school.Sgt. Jamie Erow of the Porter County Sheriff's Office said in a news release Wednesday the boy was detained on a preliminary charge of intimidation, a level 6 felony. The boy, who was detained with his parents' cooperation, will be held until at least Friday at Porter County Juvenile Detention.Authorities did not disclose the nature of the threat or how the juvenile was identified as its originator. HAMMOND — A federal judge sentenced former Calumet Township Trustee Mary Elgin to 12 months and one day in prison as a warning to other public officials thinking of running their election campaigns on the backs of their employees and the public's money."Taxpayers have been again ripped off by a Calumet Township trustee," U.S. District Court Judge Joseph VanBokkelen said Wednesday at her sentencing."It is imperative this sentence be a message to others," the judge said, adding others who "put the arm" on their employees for contributions can also expect prison.Elgin, who sat in a wheelchair following recent back surgery, apologized to her family, friends and Calumet Township residents for "my wrongdoing.
