I spent about two months toward the end of 2018 being terrified of: my apartment, my bedroom, noises in the hallway, mirrors, windows, and generally being alone and/or in the dark. What induced my obsessive terror? The addictive, engrossing, and, in my opinion, masterpiece show that is "The Haunting of Hill House," which premiered on Netflix last October.Though I typically hate horror, I was drawn to watch because I had read Shirley Jackson's books that inspired the series and figured that, like the book, it would be suspenseful and eerie but not all-out terrifying.I was wrong. Despite my ongoing fear while watching, the modernized take on Jackson's 1959 story got me hooked. Would the Crain family ever make it to the Red Room? Who left the buttons on Nell's eyes? How is it humanly possible for Steve to be such a d*ck? When I made it to the end, I was relieved – the story's narrative was complete and many reports said we were unlikely to get spooked again by the Crain family's … [Read more...] about Netflix’s addictive horror, ‘The Haunting of Hill House,’ is officially back for a second season

Service Dog Sully Fulfills George Bush’s Wish by Meeting Captain Sully Sullenberger
Back in November, our country mourned when George H.W. Bush died following a battle with a form of Parkinson's disease. It was then that our nation was also introduced to the President's beloved service dog, Sully, after a photo of him lying next to Bush's casket went viral. Thursday morning, the heroic Labrador retriever made an appearance on the Today show alongside his namesake Captain Chelsey "Sully" Sullenberger—who bravely landed a plane in the Hudson River in New York City after both engines were disabled. A tearful Jenna Bush Hager explained that her grandfather was hoping to meet the retired airline pilot last summer in Maine, but couldn't when his health began to decline. "This is not supposed to be the first time. My grandpa was such an admirer of yours," Jenna said. "He was regretful that he didn't get to shake your hand."
